about our exhibits

The Art Center has exhibition opportunities for everyone, not just members.
The mission of The Art Center is to nurture and promote South Texas artists. As such, the exhibitions program is designed to support living artists who live (including Winter Texans) in the region. We strive to provide ample exhibiting opportunities as not only a resource for artists but as a guide to grow as individual artists.
There is one national exhibit. The annual Dimension exhibit is open to artists 18 and older in the US. Artwork may be shipped.

BELOW ARE OUR DIFFERENT TYPES OF EXHIBITS:
OPEN CALL
The Art Center holds multiple open call shows throughout the year.
Dimension: Every year The Art Center hosts an open call exhibit called Dimension. This is a multi category, national exhibit that is open to artists 18 and older in the US. This is a juried exhibit with cash awards. Inclusion is determined by the juror, which changes every year. Shipping is permitted for this exhibit only. The Best of Show artist is awarded a solo exhibit alongside the following year's Dimension exhibition.
Themed Exhibits: Each year we present many themed exhibits open to the community with the goal of pushing artists to do something different. For example, in even numbered years, we host an open photography exhibition. Past themed exhibits have been Landscapes, Abstract, this years Pantone color, Animals, Food & Drink and more.
All open call shows have discounts on submission fees for current members.
MEMBERS-ONLY:
All Membership Show: Art Center members get the additional opportunity to exhibit in the annual members only show that takes place in January – everyone is guaranteed at least one piece in this show. It is a semi-juried show with cash awards, and Best of Show is awarded a solo exhibit alongside the following year's All Membership.
Affiliated Group Shows: Each affiliated group has a show once a year. All group members must be current members of the Art Center. If you are not a member of an affiliate group, you will get the opportunity to show in the Independents Show.
You may become a member of the Art Center simultaneously when you submit to a members exhibit or bring in art for the Members Gallery.
MEMBERS GALLERY
Laid back, non-juried, year round exhibit. Current members are invited to submit up to 2 pieces for sale in the Members Gallery. Change out takes place every other month on Saturdays. Fee is $8 per piece. When a pieces sells you will be notified and invited to replace the sold piece at no additional cost. Click here for more information and change-out dates!
CURATED
Staff curates special exhibits. They may be themed or solo exhibitions. There is no timeline or methodology to the process. The best way to be included in curated or invitational exhibits is to be an active member. A recent example: Collage (December 2019).
If you are an established artist who grew up or spent formative time in the Corpus Christi region but no longer live here you could be considered for the “Coming Home” series. Inform the Exhibits Coordinator of your interest.
SOLO SHOWS
Primarily for artists who have won Best of Show for Dimension or All Membership exhibits.
Very rarely, the Art Center has space available for proposed solo shows. An exhibit proposal packet is available upon request from the Exhibits Coordinator.
COMMUNITY EXHIBITS
Throughout the year, the Art Center has the privilege and ability to support a few local organizations, non-profits or outreach programs through exhibit opportunities. Causes such as Breast Cancer Awareness, Alzheimer's Awareness, Agape Ranch Foster Children Organization and much more are provided opportunities to showcase their mission and raise awareness during their time on display at the Art Center.
While we wish we could support them all, the Art Center has limited space each year for these types of exhibits. If you wish to hold a community exhibit, please reach out to the Exhibits Coordinator.
