Gift Gallery

Acceptance or rejection of work for the Gift Gallery is always at the discretion of the Gift Gallery Manager.  The Manager may defer to the Executive Committee for assistance under circumstances deemed questionable by the Gift Gallery Manager. Art is accepted by appointment between 4 and 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.  Acceptance of work for the Gift Gallery is based on the following criteria:

  • Quality of the work
  • Salability in the local market
  • Space available in the Gift Gallery
  • Presentation
  • Originality

Contract:  The Gift Gallery artist must sign a Gift Gallery Artist Consignment Contract, which consists of the following:

  1. The Artist must provide an initial inventory according to Gift Gallery specifications, including artist’s number assigned by the gift Gallery Manager, item & selling price.  The artist will continue to provide this information each time new work goes into the Gift Gallery.  The individual item information will then go into the Point of Sale inventory system in the Gift Gallery.  The artist must provide this information and assist the Gift Gallery Manager with this process in order for it to be completed in a timely manner.
  2. Artists are required to call for an appointment to bring work in.
  3. If the artist brings work in for the purpose of demonstration and that work sells, the work goes into the Gift Gallery inventory and the percentage paid to the Art Center is 30% or 40%, depending on whether or not the artist is a volunteer.  If the Art Center has a special sale on or in another location under the auspices of the Art Center Gift Gallery, these same percentages apply.
  4. Artists whose inventory is not showing significant sales (as a body of work) within 90 days may be asked to replace or remove their items.  At the end of 90 days, the work will be replaced, removed, or automatically reduced in price by 20% for a period of 3 months.  The artist makes the choice about which procedure they wish to follow when they sign the contract.  At the end of 6 months, if the work is still not selling, it must be removed and/or replaced, with the approval of the Gift Gallery manager based on the history of sales of the artist’s work.
  5. Articles left 30 days after “written notice to retrieve” become the property of the Art Center.
  6. Every effort will be made to guard against breakage, damage and theft.  However, the Art Center cannot and will not be held responsible for losses.
  7. We recommend the artist supply a brief biography and photograph for promotional purposes.
  8. Artist agrees to keep a current Art Center Membership and will agree to remove artwork within 30 days in the case of membership expiration.
  9. Work submitted must be done by the artist only.  The Gift Gallery accepts no resale items.
  10. All work must be handmade by the artist.  Reproductions of the artist’s work by the artist are acceptable at the discretion of the Gift Gallery Manager.

Inventory lists:  Inventory lists are updated by the artist as per guidelines (guidelines and procedures can be found in the Gift Gallery) or Manager’s request.

Artist’s Payment:  Checks to the artist will be issued by the 10th of the month following the sale.  Checks must be cashed within 3 months of receipt or they are void.

Sales

  1. Gallery Sales Procedure:  All art being displayed in the Art Center should be labeled with either a price for sale or (NFS) not for sale.  A value should be provided to the Art Center for those works not for sale.  The Art Center will collect a 30% commission for the sale of artwork.  All artwork in the Members Gallery shall be for sale.
  2. Art Purchases:  Purchases will be made through the Art Center.  Full payment must be made by cash, check, or credit card payable to The Art Center of Corpus Christi.  Purchased art may be picked up by the purchaser at the end of the exhibit or at the time of purchase if approved by the artist.  Sales tax will be collected and paid by the Art Center.  Artists will be paid 70% of the selling price by check from the Art Center within two weeks after the last day of the exhibit.

       3.  Studio Rentals

    1. Studio B is available for rent, through the Rental Coordinator, only to members of the Art Center.
    2. Studio B rents for $60 per week, Sunday thru Saturday, for a minimum of two weeks to a maximum of four weeks.  Options for longer rental periods up to two months will be available if there is no waiting list.  Studio B will be operational during regular Art Center hours, 10 am to 4 pm.
    3. Studio B will be assigned by the Rental Coordinator in the order reservations are received.
    4. Reservations must be made at least one month in advance and confirmed with a non-refundable deposit.  Full payment is to be made upon occupancy.  Refunds will be made only in case of emergency.
    5. Artists may share a studio by mutual consent.
    6. Each artist will be responsible for his/her own art and supplies, not holding the Art Center responsible for loss, damage, or theft.
    7. Each item should have a visible price tag or price list posted.  If a sale is made by the Art Center, the commission will be 30 percent and handled as a gallery sale.
    8. Keys for Studio B will be available in the Art Center office for use by the artist.  The keys are not to be taken off premises, and are to be returned to the office at closing time each day.
    9. Artists are asked to hang their work only on the studio walls, not on the woodwork.  Brushes are to be cleaned in the workshop sinks, not in the restrooms.  See Rental Coordinator for further information.

  1. Members Gallery Requirements:  A Members Gallery will be available for any member to exhibit one or two original pieces of art each month. 2-D art and sculptures are not to exceed 42 x 42 inches, including frame, in any direction.  2D artwork must be properly framed with eyehooks and wire hangers.  A schedule of receiving and pick-up dates will be available at the Art Center.  Forms for each piece must be completed and fastened to the artwork at receiving.  An $8.00 hanging fee for one piece and $12.00 for two pieces will be collected when the artwork is received.  Placement is at the discretion of the Art Center staff and/or volunteers responsible for hanging.  Artwork must be changed monthly and promptly.  Artists not adhering to these guidelines may lose Member Gallery privileges.  The Art Center will collect a 30% commission for artwork sold.  All artwork in the Members Gallery shall be for sale.
